Calling all women artists!

Dana Taylor, the owner of Industrielle, an art gallery and boutique in downtown Oakland, is organizing a silent auction of artwork next month. The proceeds will go to CARE, an international group that works with poor women. Regardless of how noble an endeavor this is, Dana needs some help to pull this off – she’s looking for women artists to donate their artwork. The auction, titled Kind Women for Womankind, is less than a month away – silent bidding begins on April 24.

For more information, call Dana Taylor at (510) 271 0633  or visit Industrielle, 33, Grand Avenue.

If you read this story about Spring Art for Kids, then you might remember that Kids Paint the Town is happening now.  Merchants in Oakland and Berkeley are busy installing art – prints, collages and paintings -- created by students in these towns. Oakland’s College Avenue is putting up more than 200 pieces, and is having a party to show them off. Take your kids and head over to College Avenue this Sunday for face painting, chalk art, and other artsy fun.

What: Kick off party
When: Sunday, March 30th 1pm to 2pm
Where: Glitter & Razz Dramatic Play space, 5951 College Avenue
How much: free
For more information: visit www.kidspaintthetown.org

There’s art for a good cause, art for kids, and here’s some art that’s just for you (and yes, it also supports a non-profit). It’s amazing, it’s beautiful, and it will probably leave you feeling elated --  unless you don’t like hybrids and fusion, in which case, this is not your cup of tea. But if you can handle breakdancers and acrobats in a classical ballet that doubles up as a fire performance, buy your tickets for Stravinsky's Firebird “L'oiseau de feu.” If you’re wondering about the Firebird, it’s a Pontiac Firebird that will make a blazingly grand entrance. Buy your tickets now -- they go fast.

When: 8.30 pm, April 9-12 and 16-19
Firebird Gala, Friday, April 18
Where: The Crucible, 1260 7th Street
How much:
Tickets for the preview cost $35 in advance, tickets for the main performance cost $55 in advance, gala tickets cost $150.  Members have a $5 discount for the performances. Tickets at the door cost an additional $5 over the non-members advance prices, if available.
