This is just the cheering party. Imagine what the winning party will be like. If you live in Oakland – and you watch or know people who watch TV -- you’ve probably heard of Amy Sarabi by now. If you don’t fall into either of those categories, then allow us to briefly take you into the world of television celebrities.

Amy Sarabi is an Oaklander who is a contestant on this season’s Project Runway, the popular reality show that creates a new fashion design star by the end of each season. Sarabi and several other fashion designers are competing to create clothes that each one hopes will move them into the next round, even as others get thrown off the show. Supermodel Heidi Klum is the host and one of the judges. And so far, the show’s been good to Sarabi.

To celebrate Sarabi's success and the many, many talented designers in the city of Oakland, Skylier Blanchard-Crowder, a local designer who’s dreamed of putting Oakland on the fashion map for a while now, and several City departments -- such as the Office of the Mayor, Council member Nancy Nadel, and the City’s Cultural Arts and Marketing division, are throwing a party. If you feel like hanging out with Oakland’s City Hall crowd or the fashion crowd, and sometimes, the two do overlap, then visit the Den at the Fox on Thursday. The reception will morph into a viewing party at 8.30 p.m. when Project Runway begins.

Sarabi, who is a graduate of the California College of Arts, is known for her experimental designs. You can talk to her about them tomorrow night at the Den.

Viewing party for Amy Sarabi, Complimentary light hors d'oeuvres; no-host bar.
Thursday, February 18, 8 p.m. onwards, episode airs at 8:30 p.m.
The Den at the Fox Theater, 19th and Telegraph; Located across from the 19th Street BART Station.
To RSVP or if you have any questions, contact Xiaojing Wang, Office of Councilmember Nadel, at 510-238-7031 or
