The question for voters in Montclair is what will Rebecca Kaplan mean for the District Four race. Is it possible that Jean Quan could decide that a split progressive vote would be no match for Perata, and opt to run as the incumbent in District Four for a third term? If that happened, would any of the contenders vying for her seat have a prayer? Quan has until August 6 to change her mind.

Quan wins with RCV!
Jean Quan will win the Mayor's race. Ms Kaplan may get some progressive votes from those young, lacking history and wanting to try a 3rd failed celebrity mayor, but Perata has no comprehension or ability of the skilled leadership and compassion needed to be the Great mayor that Jean Quan will be. Mature Oakland boomer voters know that Kaplan has no experience running anything so far - has she even chaired a council committee?? We wish her luck in 2018!! With Ranked Choice Voting, Kaplan's lost 1st place votes will come over to Jean Quan - Jean's not getting out of the race, so who is trying to start these false rumors??
